One of the things women claim is most important in a man is a sense of humor. In my years...I've learned that they're usually referring to the humor of guys like Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, and Russell Crowe. Apparently, those guys are hilarious. |

I have all my final grades in except for physics, but assuming I passed the TEE, I am through with my last bad semester at West Point! Woo Hoo! Now I celebrate! No really, you have no idea how happy it makes me to think that I will never be taking a math or physics course again. But I am going to try to control myself, as the physics grade hasn't been posted yet. *sigh*
Anyway, I'm leaving to go back home tomorrow, so I just wanted to take a second to wish everyone who reads this a Merry Christmas! Spend time with your families and celebrate Jesus Christ's birthday, because that is what it's all about in the mix.
Anyway, like I said, I'll be leaving tomorrow, so I might not be posting for awhile, so peace. Be good. |

| An Article about last week's Goat-Engineer Game |
[Dec. 9th, 2004|09:18 pm] |
As the sun set at West Point and the temperature began moving south of freezing yesterday, players in the traditional Goat-Engineer game took over Daly Field in the shadow of Battle Monument. But this was not your father's Goat-Engineer contest played in daylight on Thanksgiving Days past on some dusty, remote field with modest attendance. This was the big time, on a lighted field with a play by play commentator, a working public address system, and hundreds of cadets in battle dress, parents, staff and faculty families with bundled children, and a sprinkling of old grads anxious to burnish their black, gold and gray sentiments while sipping hot chocolate on the sidelines. The Engineers were resplendent in black jerseys, while the Goats wore white-with unusual names across the shoulders, like: "Crazy Azn" or "Ice Rocket." And a most unusual piece of equipment was worn by all participants on both sides-knee braces to protect each knee from injury. The field, courtesy of recent rain storms, was cold and wet, so after a few minutes every player wore a liberal coating of brown mud. After a scoreless, seesaw battle, the Engineers finally scored on a long pass, but the kick for the point after was smothered. At the half, the score remained 6-0. The half time festivities included a short dance number by some very chilly but well-bundled young ladies, followed by a great performance by the Cadet Drill Team in BDUs with Springfield rifles. Then, for those familiar with the Michie Stadium halftime promotion that awards a Jeep to the fan able to pass the most footballs through a hole not much bigger than a jeep headlight, the venerable jeep sign again was wheeled onto the field. This time, however, the prizes were more modest: a mountain bike, a stereo and a gift certificate. Where exactly does one display a mountain bike for morning inspection anyway? When the players returned to the field, the Goats-plagued by six turnovers in the game-were driving for a TD when a pass was intercepted near the goal line. A few plays later, the Goats took a measure of revenge by notching a safety to make it 6-2. The Goats would repeat the safety-after-interception drill again, although this time it appeared that the Engineer coach, with a margin provided by a second Engineer TD followed by a two-point conversion on a run up the middle, called for a play that accepted the safety after two earlier plays could not move the ball from the shadow of the goal line. And that is how the game ended, Engineers 14, Goats 4, in the cold, wet mud. At the rally following the game, the Supe commented that five more safeties and the Goats would have been back in the ball game. But first, he moved down the line of players on the field and awarded participation medals to all. Then the Supe introduced Coach Bobby Ross to raucous acclaim. Ross praised the firsties on the team, praised the support given all season long by the 12th Man, and asked for even more help for the crucial Army-Navy game. In an earlier interview, he indicated the Black Knights were better prepared than his San Diego team was going into the Super Bowl. Greg Washington then began the introduction of the cadets who would play their last collegiate football game on Saturday. It included some very familiar names: Resnick, QBs Nevels and Silva, Washington himself, wide receiver Alexander, defensive backs Daniels, Lewis and Brewer, linebacker Maimone, Landry, Troy, Wojcik, offensive linemen Glover and Tatford, tight end Horaist, and defensive tackle Sullivan. There are 31 in all. Then the Supe took off his field jacket to reveal a black jersey with a "71" on it (heck, you knew he was an Engineer and a member of the Class of '71) and said the words that the many frozen fans were waiting to hear: "Let's burn a boat!!" Attention shifted to a pile of miscellaneous wood, mainly pallets, topped off with a wooden cabin cruiser and a sign proclaiming" "Mmm, Fried Squid" located just behind the eastern goal post. Under the supervision of the West Point Fire Department-with two fire trucks and crews in attendance-the pyre was lighted and bystanders crowded around closely to bask in the warm glow of the bonfire while contemplating the validity of the old saying, "As the Goats go, so goes Army." This morning, snowflakes greeted the team during its sendoff to Philadelphia, escorted by the Commandant on the Orange County Chopper motorcycle built to honor West Point and the Long Gray Line. Look for it at halftime at the Army-Navy game this Saturday. Your humble servant,
J. Phoenix, Esquire |

| | TRUSTcompany - Running From Me | ] | Yeah, so I just got back from football practice and felt the need to vent on here so I don't bounce my roommate off of every wall in this room. So basically, I don't know what I'm going to do when football is over this Thursday. I won't have an outlet for my anger anymore. I love hitting people, I even like getting hit. I was told today that the pleasure I derive from the destruction of my body is sick. Whatever.
I think after football I'll start club wrestling. I have found that I can only effectively release my aggression on a human being. I also think that I would make a good anti-drug ad. They need a little video of me trashing someone, then fade to black...."Violence...my anti drug." Yup, that would work. Whoever does drugs is missing out. If you need something like that to get you going, you should try being violent, seriously. Its a high you can't match with chemical stimulants. And physical aggression has also shown to lead to an increase in testosterone, which leads to an increase in virility. That's legit if you ask me.
Anyway, I have a Honor Committee meeting that I must go be belligerent at.

You know nothin's gettin' done when talk is all you hear Like someone revvin' up a truck never put in gear But you don't see a cowboy run his mouth and strut around He just takes the bull by the horns and throws him to the ground Takin' care of business not just puttin' on a show When it gets down to it, everybody knows
It ain't the smoke, it's the fire that gets the burnin' done If it wasn't for the bullet, nobody'd fear the gun It ain't the bark, it ain't the growl, it's the bite that hurts Thunder's just a noise, boys, lightnin' does the work
You can talk about the farm or you can plow the ground Argue with a rusty nail or hammer it on down You can stand there in the dark cussin' at the night Or you can just reach out your hand and turn on the light There ain't no limit in this life to how far you can get But if you're goin' all the way you gotta break a sweat
It ain't the smoke, it's the fire that gets the burnin' done If it wasn't for the bullet, nobody'd fear the gun It ain't the bark, it ain't the growl, it's the bite that hurts Thunder's just a noise, boys, lightnin' does the work
I've heard thunder talkin' up a storm Rattlin' my windows and knockin' on my door But I've seen lightnin' blow a cypress tree in half The thunder's busy talkin', and lightnin's kickin'
It ain't the smoke, it's the fire that gets the burnin' done If it wasn't for the bullet, nobody'd fear the gun It ain't the bark, it ain't the growl, it's the bite that hurts Thunder's just a noise, boys, lightnin' does the work Thunder's just a noise, boys, lightnin' does the work |

| | My idiot roommate's banter | ] | Sorry I haven't posted very much recently, but things are starting to calm down [a little bit] so maybe I'll be able to post more often. We'll see. I got to go home for Thanksgiving break last week, which was nice I guess. It seems every time I go home the trip gets a little more depressing. Not only does it seem that LaGrange is deteriorating economically, the people are backsliding too. Every time I come home, someone else has a new baby, a new shot-gun marriage that makes no sense, or a new drug addiction. Too many people have forfeited their opportunities to better themselves through further education and many of those that haven't yet had the opportunity aren't doing anything to make sure they do. It's frustrating. Anyway, I did get to see the people that matter, minus one, but I'm sure we'll get to hang out when I'm home for Christmas, even if I have to break into her house. I'm going to start making a list of things to do the whole time I'm home next time, too much sitting around makes me think to much, ad I find that the longer I let my mind lay idle, the more pissed of I get. I guess that's one of the positives about being back at school, being busy will help distract me from other things and therefore limit the number of broken things in my proximity. For now, I'll just do my soldiering, and work on the rest the best I can.
There is good news however! Chaplain C is back. He has been in Kuwait for a long time which has left me without much in the means of an outlet. I'm going to talk to him today, I have much to tell him about. I'll probably be there all afternoon. This is good. Anyway, John McCain's book on courage is out, so I'm going to run to the bookstore and pick it up. Peace.

| | Rilo Kiley - Plane Crash in C | ] | Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break, and a dimly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice. He will not grow faint or be crushed until he has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for his teaching.
Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people upon it and spirit to those who walk in it: I am the LORD, I have called you in righteousness, I have taken you by the hand and kept you; I have given you as a covenant to the people, a light to the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.
I am the LORD, that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to idols. See, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth, I tell you of them. |
